FIELD NOTES

Three things worth knowing before we're standing at 11,796 feet.

🫁 ALTITUDE IS REAL

The summit day is nearly 12,000 ft. Drink water constantly, go slow on stairs, and expect everyone — Noah included — to tire faster than at home. Headache? Descend and hydrate.

🧥 PACK LIKE IT'S TWO TRIPS

Estes in September: 70s by day, 40s at night. The top of Trail Ridge: 40s–50s with wind, any day. Sunscreen matters more up here, not less — the sun is a fifth family member.

🦌 SEPTEMBER BONUS

We're arriving at the start of the elk rut. Bulls bugle in Moraine Park and even through downtown Estes at dusk. Keep distance, keep quiet, and just listen — it's the sound of the trip.
